Servant at the Station

Every year, new officers are elected to Masonic lodges and Order of the Eastern Star chapters with a title and not much else. Servant at the Station is the honest, plain-spoken guide they should have been handed on day one.

This is not a politically correct book. It tells the truth about what makes a lodge or chapter thrive, and what quietly destroys one: ego, favoritism, gossip, neglected records, and officers who forget why they joined.

Inside, you’ll find:

• Every office explained: Worshipful Master, Worthy Matron, Worthy Patron, Associate Matron, Associate Patron, Senior and Junior Wardens, Deacons, Conductress and Associate Conductress, Secretary, Treasurer, Stewards, Chaplain, Marshal, Tyler, Warder, Sentinel, Organist, and the Star Point Officers
• For each office: its importance, typical duties, the respect it deserves, the humble servant’s approach, and the mistakes to avoid
• Advice for those serving and for those who hope to serve in each position
• The purpose behind it all: why these organizations exist, why people join, and the bad reasons that cause trouble
• A clear rule for handling money and protecting your lodge or chapter
• How to teach others without preaching, and why an officer’s job is to make himself or herself unnecessary
• A closing message on why every chair matters

Written for general audiences, with respect for both the fraternity and the sisterhood, and with no ritual or secrets. Always follow your own Grand Lodge or Grand Chapter’s laws.

Perfect for new officers, veterans, Past Masters, Past Matrons, Past Patrons, and members hoping to serve someday.
